Hyundai, Genesis And Kia Win A Collective 9 Good Design Awards

Hyundai and its sister companies in the Hyundai Motor Group, Kia and Genesis, have been making great strides as of recent in the design of their cars.

At the end of each year, the Good Design Awards showcase products that have, well, good design. And in 2020, Hyundai, Kia and Genesis have all made it onto that list.

Let’s take a look at how each brand did.

Hyundai

Hyundai won four awards with the Prophecy concept, the 45 concept, the Elantra/Avante, and the Hi-Charger EV charging infrastructure. The three cars, (Elantra/Avante, 45 and Prophecy) were all recognized for their unique design identities. While each design carries its own philosophy, all three were said to be reflective of a principle called “Sensuous Sportiness”. The Hi-Charger EV charging system also received the prize, adding to its plaudits from the 2020 Red Dot Awards.

Genesis

Genesis won three awards with the G80, the GV80, and the Copper Design Theme of their infotainment system. Both the G80 and the GV80 were recognized for embracing distinctive yet classic design factors and user convenience, while the Copper Design Theme was recognized for providing optimized visibility and usability while driving using a sophisticated copper theme that reflects Genesis’ luxury brand identity. Its standout features such as AR-based navigation, Car Pay, Valet Mode and Home-to-Car also utilize the same Copper Design Theme.

Kia

Driven: 2021 Kia Sorento Combines Space With Extra Pace

Last, but not least, Kia won two awards with the K5 and the Sorento. The K5 was recognized for its “tiger nose” grille and “heartbeat” running lights, which incorporate a traditional grille and headlights into one unit. The Sorento was recognized for bringing together its predecessors’ design heritage, while also breaking away from the typical sport utility vehicle’s styling conventions.
