“She is more precocious than Emeralds, she is a real two-year-old. They can both gallop; this one is just ready a bit earlier.
“She just does everything right: eats, sleeps and works like a good horse. We will find out a bit more about her on Saturday.”
Four Moves Ahead hasn’t been paid up for the Magic Millions series, so Sargent is in no rush to get her back to the Gold Coast, but he thinks she could measure up to the best of her generation and has been waiting for her debut.
She has been to the barrier trials three times for two wins and has shown the ability to run good times in those hit-outs.
“It is a good time get her out there and find out where she stands. She could be a Slipper type of filly, but until raceday you don’t really know,” Sargent said. “I think the bookmakers have seen her trials because she is priced like she is the one to beat.”
After the scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Ranch Hand, which will run in Brisbane to try to qualify for the Magic Millions, Four Moves Ahead is the second pick at $3.70 behind Godolphin filly Laurelin at $3.
“My filly is very fit and ready to show what she can do. After Saturday we can give her a short break and hopefully have a look at the better races before the Slipper,” Sargent said.
He also has his autumn team coming back into the stable, including Emeralds, who had her first three-quarter pace hit-out this week.
“She is still getting better and a race like the Coolmore Classic will be her target,” Sargent said. “I think she showed she was up to that sort race in the spring, and she has got a bit stronger with the break.”
Sargent is waiting for the return of Brandenburg to his yard in a couple of weeks after he was gelded following the Golden Eagle. The trainer will look to the end of the autumn and winter carnival in Brisbane with the Doncaster and Randwick Guineas placegetter.
“He is the sort of horse that has shown he is up to the top level, and I think is going to improve next year,” Sargent said.
