America’s Got Talent Season 15 just keeps amazing us with young talent, and Elijah de la Motte is no exception. The 14-year-old cellist from San Francisco is competing on the show this season.

1. Elijah plays cello covers of popular songs.
Elijah has been playing cello since he was two years old. His Instagram account and YouTube channel feature several videos in which he covers pop songs on his cello. Above, he joins his family for a performance of “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I. He’s also covered songs by Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.

2. He and his siblings are in a band.
Elijah de la Motte is one of nine children, and most of them perform together in a band of string instruments. They play cello, violin, viola, and string bass. They even busk together on the street. Check out the above video of the group performing “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor while wearing masks during the pandemic.
3. His family recently lived together in a trailer.
Elijah’s family of 11 recently lived in a 30-foot Airstream trailer while they were looking for a house. The 14-year-old posted a vlog sharing what life is like in the trailer. The family sold their house in San Diego right before the COVID-19 pandemic.

He shared that one woman in the trailer park had actually called the cops on the family for playing music. The de la Motte family has since moved into their new house in San Francisco.
4. Elijah has had to deal with several health issues.
According to his bio on the de la Motte family’s website, Elijah was diagnosed with hearing loss in his left ear after birth. He’s also apparently “fought many illnesses, but he doesn’t let anything stand in his way.” We’re not sure of the details, but we may find out more when Elijah auditions for AGT this season.
5. Elijah attends a prestigious music school.
According to his family’s website, Elijah studies cello at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, which has a Pre-College division. Elijah is so talented on the cello that he’s even posted some tutorials online. In the above video, he shares some tips on vibrato for beginner cellists.
